Poker games can be played with any number of players, but an ideal size is between six and eight people. Depending on the amount of money to be wagered, the number of cards in the deck and the number of players involved, the rules may differ. Some variants are played with short packs of cards, while others are played with a full deck of cards. The earliest known form of poker was played with 20 cards.
